Earth Circle Organics Nori Flakes Raw & Wildcrafted is wholesome food for vibrant living. Nori, a dried seaweed resembling sheets of black paper, is a very popular ingredient in Japan, particularly for the wrapping of steamed rice to make makizushi (rolled sushi) and o-nigiri (rice balls). Nori is also a very important traditional breakfast food, eaten with rice. Seasoned nori is also popular, and nori and seasoned nori are available in individually wrapped, bite-sized sheets and served at breakfast in the home or at traditional Japanese inns and hotels. How can Seaweed be Organic?      Aquaculture can be certified Organic by following the rules and regulations of the U.S. National Organic Plan (NOP) of the USDA.  The rules require testing of the wild areas for banned contaminants before harvest and the products themselves after harvest. The regulations also require all processing be done according to the NOP standards and in USDA Organic certified facilities.  There are no specific requirements or guidance on seaweeds in the FDA standards.
